How It Works
‘CEF Mastery’ keeps data on 325+ highest yielding closed-end funds. The data is gathered from the funds’ semi-annual and annual reports to shareholders that have reported distributions to NAV in excess of 5%. From that data, we select what we deem to be the most important metrics of a funds financial health and assign each data point a score using a sliding scale. For example, a fund that has less debt will rank higher than a fund with some debt and even higher than a fund with a lot of debt.
In addition to our sliding scale scoring of crucial data points, we also add or subtract points based on a combination of factors. For instance, we add extra points if a fund just reported ‘Net Investment Income’ in excess of their distributions and had a portfolio turnover rate below 20% for the period. The logic behind this metric is that a fund was able to fully meet its distributions with ‘Net Investment Income’ and without a significant turnover of its holdings.
Finally, we use the data reported by the fund and extrapolate it to the present and also assign that performance a score using sliding scale and bonus scoring to determine the funds increased or decreased ability to further meet its distributions in the future.
All this information is then bundled into a simple, easy to use, report. The ‘‘CEF Mastery’ Super Screener and Interactive Report which is sent directly to your inbox every Saturday.
We selected what we believe are the most important data points that could fit to a page and not overwhelm the user with too much information.
